Important: This Acceptable Use Policy is part of our Terms of Service. Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account. If you see abuse, report it to abuse@semlypro.com.
1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy outlines prohibited uses of Semly Pro Services. Our goal is to maintain a safe, legal, and ethical platform for all users while enabling productive use of AI-powered SEO tools.
2. General Prohibitions
2.1 Illegal Activity
You may not use the Services to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or legal requirement
- Promote, facilitate, or engage in illegal activity
- Infringe intellectual property rights (copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret)
- Violate privacy laws or misuse personal data
- Engage in fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading practices
2.2 Harmful Content
You may not generate, publish, or distribute content that:
- Hate speech: Promotes violence, discrimination, or hatred against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Harassment: Bullies, threatens, stalks, or harasses individuals
- Violence: Glorifies, incites, or threatens violence or physical harm
- Child safety: Sexualizes, exploits, or harms minors in any way
- Self-harm: Promotes suicide, self-injury, or eating disorders
- Dangerous activities: Provides instructions for creating weapons, explosives, or dangerous substances
2.3 Misinformation and Deception
You may not use AI-Generated Content to:
- Spread misinformation: Deliberately create or amplify false information on matters of public concern (health, elections, crises)
- Impersonate: Impersonate individuals, organizations, or entities to mislead others
- Manipulate: Manipulate search rankings through spam, cloaking, or deceptive SEO practices
- Astroturf: Create fake reviews, testimonials, or social proof
- Phishing/scams: Create content designed to steal credentials, financial information, or commit fraud
2.4 Spam and Abuse
You may not:
- Spam: Generate mass low-quality content for SEO manipulation
- Scraping abuse: Scrape competitors' websites excessively or in violation of robots.txt
- Resource abuse: Circumvent usage limits, create multiple accounts, or otherwise abuse free trials
- System abuse: Overload our servers, perform denial-of-service attacks, or interfere with Services
3. AI-Specific Prohibitions
3.1 Unreviewed AI Content
You must review all AI-Generated Content before publishing. Publishing unreviewed AI outputs that result in:
- Factually incorrect information
- Copyright infringement
- Defamation or false statements about individuals/entities
- Regulated-industry violations (medical, legal, financial advice without disclaimers)

3.2 Prohibited AI Use Cases
You may not use our AI-powered features to generate:
- Malware/exploits: Code designed to harm systems, steal data, or bypass security
- Surveillance content: Content for mass surveillance, stalking, or privacy invasion
- Political manipulation: Coordinated inauthentic content for election interference
- Adult content: Sexually explicit content (our AI providers prohibit this)
- Regulated advice: Medical diagnoses, legal advice, or financial recommendations without appropriate disclaimers and human review
3.3 Model Abuse
You may not:
- Attempt to extract training data from AI models ("model inversion")
- Reverse-engineer or replicate our AI models
- Use outputs to train competing AI models
- Deliberately prompt models to produce prohibited content
4. Technical and Security Prohibitions
4.1 Unauthorized Access
You may not:
- Access accounts, data, or systems you're not authorized to access
- Share account credentials or allow unauthorized users to access your account
- Bypass authentication, rate limits, or access controls
- Use stolen credentials or payment methods
4.2 System Interference
You may not:
- Probe, scan, or test vulnerabilities of our systems without written permission
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble our software
- Interfere with or disrupt the Services, servers, or networks
- Transmit viruses, malware, or other malicious code
- Remove, alter, or obscure copyright notices or license information
4.3 API and Integration Abuse
You may not:
- Exceed rate limits or usage quotas
- Use the MCP server to build competing SEO tools
- Resell or sublicense API access without authorization
- Cache or store excessive amounts of API data
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 Copyright Infringement
You may not:
- Generate content that plagiarizes or closely reproduces copyrighted works
- Use our Services to scrape and republish copyrighted content from competitors
- Circumvent copyright protections or ignore DMCA notices
DMCA Process: If you believe content on our Services infringes your copyright, file a DMCA notice at dmca@semlypro.com with:
- Identification of the copyrighted work
- Identification of the infringing material (URL or account)
- Your contact information
- A statement of good faith belief
- A statement of accuracy under penalty of perjury
- Your physical or electronic signature
5.2 Trademark Misuse
You may not:
- Use our trademarks (Semly Pro, logos) without permission
- Generate content that infringes third-party trademarks
- Impersonate brands or create confusingly similar content
6. Data Protection and Privacy
6.1 Personal Data Misuse
You may not:
- Process personal data in violation of GDPR, CCPA, or other data protection laws
- Collect or process sensitive personal data (GDPR Article 9 special categories) without explicit consent
- Use our Services to build databases of personal information for sale or distribution
- Include personal data in AI prompts without proper legal basis and consent
6.2 Privacy Violations
You may not:
- Publish private information about individuals without consent (doxxing)
- Scrape or harvest email addresses or phone numbers
- Track users across websites without proper consent (GDPR/ePrivacy)
7. CMS and Integration Abuse
7.1 Unauthorized Publishing
You may not:
- Publish content to CMS platforms you don't own or have permission to access
- Use stolen or unauthorized CMS credentials
- Overwrite or delete content without authorization
7.2 Third-Party Terms Violations
When using CMS integrations (WordPress, Sanity, etc.), you must comply with their terms of service. Violations of third-party terms may result in termination of your Semly Pro account.
8. Commercial Use Restrictions
8.1 Unauthorized Resale
You may not:
- Resell Semly Pro subscriptions or access
- Offer Semly Pro as a white-label service without written agreement
- Share account access with clients or third parties (use team members feature instead)
8.2 Competitive Use
You may not:
- Use the Services to build a competing SEO platform
- Benchmark the Services for competitive analysis without permission
- Extract our algorithms, prompts, or proprietary methods
9. Reporting Violations
9.1 How to Report
If you encounter content or activity that violates this policy, report it to:
- General abuse: abuse@semlypro.com
- Copyright infringement (DMCA): dmca@semlypro.com
- Security vulnerabilities: security@semlypro.com
- Child safety: abuse@semlypro.com (we report to NCMEC as required by law)
9.2 What to Include
In your report, provide:
- Description of the violation
- URL or account information
- Evidence (screenshots, logs)
- Your contact information
We investigate all reports within 48 hours and take action as appropriate.
10. Enforcement
10.1 Investigation
We may investigate suspected violations by:
- Reviewing account activity and usage logs
- Examining generated content
- Requesting explanation or documentation from you
- Consulting with law enforcement or legal authorities
10.2 Enforcement Actions
Depending on the severity of the violation, we may:
- Warning: Email notice with opportunity to cure (first-time, minor violations)
- Content removal: Delete violating content
- Feature restriction: Disable AI generation, publishing, or specific features
- Suspension: Temporary account suspension (7-30 days) with opportunity to appeal
- Termination: Permanent account termination without refund
- Legal action: Civil or criminal proceedings for serious violations
- Law enforcement referral: Reporting illegal activity to authorities
10.3 Repeat Violations
Repeat violations result in escalating consequences:
- First violation: Warning
- Second violation: 7-day suspension
- Third violation: 30-day suspension
- Fourth violation: Permanent termination
Severe violations (illegal content, child safety, fraud) result in immediate termination regardless of history.
10.4 Appeals
If your account is suspended or terminated, you may appeal by emailing appeals@semlypro.com within 14 days with:
- Your account email
- Explanation of why you believe the action was in error
- Evidence supporting your appeal
We will review appeals within 7 business days. Our decision is final.
11. Cooperation with Law Enforcement
We cooperate with law enforcement investigations and may disclose user information when:
- Required by law (subpoena, court order, search warrant)
- Necessary to prevent harm or illegal activity
- Required to protect our rights or property
For child safety violations, we report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by U.S. law.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email and by posting a notice on our Services. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
